« Situated near the bustle and hustle of the Old Quarter, the Phuc Tan area has a special position under Long Bien bridge and enjoys a simple and quiet life with frail drink stalls and houses huddling together. Contrary to that serenity, the playground for children is always full of life with many children in the area coming together to run around, play football and other games,... These activities are part of our childhood. When it comes to my childhood, I could hardly forget the mini figures made out of colorful flour known as “tò he” - a very typical Vietnamese folk toy.

Childhood showered us with bittersweet memories, following us wherever we go, even when we grow up. That is also the reason why I decided to make this sculpture with giant "tò he” at the Phuc Tan area as a tribute to my childhood memory.

If you once come across the Hang Trong folk painting named "Lion Dance" or the "Old Quarter Fashion Week" relief on Phung Hung street, you may also wonder what became of the characters when they stepped out of the old artworks. Perhaps the little boys and girls in the old painting would dress up in hip and chic outfits and roam Hanoi streets to find the Phuc Tan area located behind the Red River dyke meandering along the busy roads to admire Hanoi from a different angle with a quirky beauty? »
